10 GREEN PROMISES - 10 GREEN BOTTLES
Over the next year we will be putting some ideas on this page for how you can save some energy by doing some very simple things both in the house and when you are out and about.
As part of the main start-up programme for GLUG...we will be following the lead of other Greening campaigns in the greater Hampshire region that have been launched successfully over the last few years.
Part of these campaigns is a list of ten energy saving suggestions on a card which were delivered to each household ...
Each household will be invited to embrace at least 5 of the suggestions and see how they got on during the year....then in Autumn we will have a light hearted SPOT CHECK...cheese and wine Harvest Sipper to see how people ar doing (Chances to win classic prizes)
Families are asked to put the card in their windows so that passers by could see the card and help spread the Greener Living in Upton Grey message.
We will be stating this campaign around the village in Springtime :
The 10 GREEN PROMISES ARE :
- CHANGE YOUR LIGHT BULBS TO THE NEW ENERGY EFFICIENT TYPE
- WALK OR CYCLE IF YOUR JOURNEY IS LESS THAN 1 MILE
- TURN OFF THE LIGHTS WHEN YOU LEAVE A ROOM
- TURN OFF ALL STANDBYS
- TURN DOWN THE THERMOSTAT BY 1 DEGREE
- PUT ON A JUMPER BEFORE TURNING THE HEATING UP
- REDUCE WATER USED TO FLUSH THE TOILET
- RE-USE CARRIER BAGS
- KEEP TO THE SPEED LIMIT
- BOIL ONLY THE WATER YOU NEED EACH TIME
BY DOING ONE OR ALL OF THESE YOU WILL SAVE BOTH ENERGY AND HARD EARNED CASH AS WELL
